Night-Friendly Lighting at Home
Two of the Seven Things to improve outdoor lighting at your home and in our community – 1 Amber light and 2 Shielding – can preserve the Milky Way at your home and even bring it back in large urban areas. Just these two simple strategies can darken skies by 90% (over 2 astronomical magnitudes), quadrupling the number of stars visible in your night sky, at the same time that it improves lighting and visibility on the ground!

With support from Creative Flagstaff and the City of Flagstaff BBB Revenues, Mountain Sports and Dark Sky Brewing Company, the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition is providing a limited number of FREE night-friendly amber light bulbs and light fixtures to upgrade lighting at homes in the Flagstaff region.

Shielded porch lights – a limited number of FREE fully shielded porch lights is available, up to two per household. They can be used as a porch light, or any wall-mounted exterior light on your home. Contact FDSC for more information. |
