Flagstaff Celebrates it’s Star-Filled Night Skies
On March 28th 2014 the City of Flagstaff officially proclaimed 2014 as Flagstaff’s Year of the Night Sky to celebrate the scientific, cultural, and economic value to our region of the starry sky that wheels overhead every night.
Protection of the night sky began in Flagstaff in 1958 – and Flagstaff continues to set the standard for effective night sky protection. A Coconino Voices article in the Arizona Daily Sun described our special history and role in what is now an international dark-sky movement.

Coconino Center for the Arts Presentation by NAU professor Dr. Tad Theimer. Many dramas play out under the dark skies of a Flagstaff night. Foxes, skunks, raccoons, coyotes and a host of other animals wander our yards and streets at night and in many cases their behavior is directly influenced by the way we build our homes, landscape our yards and feed our pets. Come learn more about this alternative Flagstaff "night life." Presented in collaboration with Flagstaff Festival of Science.
